After graduating from high school, Fathi actually intends to continue to ITB or UI, unfortunately because he was not accepted at his favorite university, Fathi desperately decided to wander, look for fortune abroad. The choice is desperate because he is not from a wealthy family that is able to finance his life abroad.
Initially Fathi only wanted to migrate to Australia. It was not easy because many times his visa application was refused. Fathi did not give up until he finally got a tourist visa which only allowed him to stay in Australia for 14 days. With a tourist visa, Fathi tried to find a job, he did manage to live and work in Australia, but only for a few months because immigration officers were caught so Fathi had to be held in a shelter for illegal immigrants to be immediately returned to Indonesia.

The journey was desperate because there he had no acquaintances or relatives who would guide him. He only knew America from the films he had witnessed.

Starting from the bottom he stepped on his career, Tenacity, determination, and God's grace led him to his desired position as a Manager at Mobil Oil Corporation, a world-class petroleum company. Not only that, Fathi could even attend college until finally an event required him to return to Indonesia and leave behind what he had struggled with.

The picture of life in America is described in detail so that we can experience, feel, and see what the author is experiencing including the description of the society and the work culture of Americans, the lives of immigrants, and how the Muslim community existed there in the 80s.
A number of motivational messages about determination and messages of Islamic religion are also tucked into this novel. Fortunately, everything is presented in the right portion and integrated into the story so that the reader will not feel patronized or preached. Even I feel that non-Muslim readers can enjoy this novel because the religious messages in this novel are universal and easily understood by everyone.
